India or Bharat- what's this new game???

A couple of days back one of my virtual friend on the internet has posted a discussion on a social networking site-"Let us show our real name - Bharat to the world".I replied to him with my question "What are you trying to achieve by changing the name of your( our) country??". I wish he is not one among those superstitious Indians who is very badly affected by the Numerology mania which is an ongoing thing.

I have couple of my friends who changed their names by adding/deleting few letters from their existing name believing it is going to bring them fortune or their existing name is the reason for all their misfortunes!!.My name has five"E"s and people often think it is such a numerological obsession- believe me it is purely for pronunciation reasons only and I am ready to have a change of name with the world's most horrible,unlucky numerological set up as I believe names are for identity and to avoid ambiguity rather than bringing luck or misfortune.


India has seen changes in the names of its major cities in the recent past ( say 10 years) Madras,Bombay,Calcutta,Bangalore became Chennai,Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru respectively with a reason of restoring the original names and adding a lot of confusions among the international travelers like "How far Chennai is from Madras?" and "That Bomb blast in the hotel happened at Mumbai or Bombay?"

India has undoubtedly grown up as an economic superpower in the last decade and will grow as being projected by many super brains and analysts.India along with China,Brazil are in the race to be a global leader by 2030!!but it is funny to relate this growth with mere changing the name of the country.Besides its growth in the international arena,India has a lot to tackle internally from combating poverty,corruption,developing infrastructure,health-sanitation facility which I am sure will not happen on its own by calling India as "Bharat or Rajiv or Kuppusamy or Ganga".

Indians will not be happy to see India to achieve what Myanmar or Zimbabwe has achieved by changing their names from Burma and Rhodesia(Under the "Golden reign" of President Mugabe, Zimbabwe has achieved 231 million % inflation!!!!!)

Let INDIA be callItaliced INDIA.May be in Hindi - "Bharat" as how a French will say Le Pays Bas for The Netherlands or as a Hindi speaking guy saying "Misr" for Egypt .
