Why no to Coca Cola & Pepsi
Just in 2 weeks from now, no fizzy drinks from Coca-cola and Pepsico corp will be sold all over Tamilnadu & Pondicherry, the southern state and its adjoining union territory in India. This has been decided by the Trader's association and all shops and businesses have been instructed to stop stocking and selling the frizzy drinks.
There has been allegations against the soft drink giants for exploiting the underground water resources in their manufacturing plants thereby leaving the cultivable lands arid which has badly impacted agriculture. It's so sad- no doubt.Besides this, the fizzy drinks were always targeted by many for being unhealthy , causing obesity among youth and for being unethical foreign players crushing the indigenous manufacturers.
I have to confess here for being a Coke lover ( note - not an addict!) for many years but drastically reduced consuming in the recent past .Now, thinking of getting used to a situation where even the occasional sipping is going to be tough.
I have few questions popping up:
If the sweetened fizzy drinks are unhealthy, are all those that are allowed to be sold are healthy?? I mean the sugar laden sweets, fatty foods-again don't target Burgers and Pizzas alone as if Samosas, Biryanis and Gulab Jamuns are healthy options and the "cancer-rich" cigarettes gifted from heaven.
A friend of mine was tweeting and posting status on Facebook to tell people how he welcomes this move by the traders and how these foreign giants crush the local industry and as a Nobel laureate in Economics he kept writing on Facebook that the Indian Rupees will get stronger if we stop consuming Coca Cola & Pepsi products and didn't failed to mention that as a patriotic citizen its the responsibility for every one to stop drinking Coke!! All this he did using Facebook & Twitter, on his Samsung Galaxy mobile and uses many other imported stuffs. Perhaps, the effects of not liking Coke😂. Isn't it funny to say that people have to refrain from using one product or product from one corporation instead of stopping to buy imported stuffs altogether to cause a surge in the parameters that are positive for the local economy.
No doubt, the manufacturers of these drinks suck millions of gallons of precious under-ground water during the production process but how does one goes and support local manufacturers of soft drinks who do the same.Where does the local frizzy drink makers get their water from?I don't think they have any desalination plants or direct pipelines running for thousands of miles from the springs to their manufacturing plants. It would be logical if people stop supporting local brands of soft drinks too and start supporting natural beverages like fresh juices.
I am sure I can live without Coke but its tough living with so many intelligent brains around.
