Modern method of Communication

All books on Communication Skills talk about Verbal, formal written, body languages as main types of communication while it is becoming increasingly important to include another type- "Missed call" communication through mobile phone.Everyday, hundreds of thousands of people around the globe communicate through this method which is a pre-determined method of communication between the person who makes the call then disconnects and the person who receives the call and receives the message as the call gets disconnected. This should probably be the most economical method of communication as no cost is involved for exchange of message between people at 2 different region of the world.Let's see this case where "A" in India has asked his friend "B" in Argentina to give him a missed call when the latter has finished an urgent work.As told, B makes a call to A and disconnects which does not cost anything to B but the message is conveyed despite the distance. 11-11-11 CRAZY PEOPLE!!!

There was a big hype about the 11th Nov 2011 just for the reason that it looks fancy when written in DD-MM-YY format as 11-11-11.The reason told by all those who fancied that date is that it is once in a life time opportunity to see 11-11-11 and will get to see this in 2111.The impact of the hype so created has made a lots of couples around the world get married, temples to have special prayer services, and some crazy people gone to the extend to perform surgeries to give birth to their babies regardless it is medically advisable or not. Every year /month has some dates which looks bit attractive when written like 10-10-10 or 08-09-10 etc., and has nothing special like 25 hours or Sunrise from the west. Its mere business gimmick to captivate people to spend money to buy gifts, memorabilia by attaching a "Special" or an "Auspicious " tag to simple things....

Only Once in a Blue "MOON"

Image
Once again yesterday I felt the luxury of living in a tiny nation. It's a life time opportunity to pose with His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki moon ,United Nation Secretary General(UNSG)during his visit to Solomon Islands on 3rd-4th September. We were on our toes to take the greatest care of this historic visit, working long hours, sleepless night and this opportunity to stand next to the UNSG is the greatest reward we can get. He was so humble, greeting, shaking hands with every person.I am wondering whether people get elevated to such high positions by nature of their maturity and humbleness( besides their qualifications, experiences) or they become humble and matured as they reach such positions???? Another importance of this photo is the photographer!!! this photograph was clicked by Mr.Vijay Nambiar ,Chef de Cabinet of United Nations when we were reluctant to miss the opportunity of being in the photo by doing the favour of clicking the photo.

Online Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia is a word that suggest sound. It used to be funny game during my school days when my friends used to challenge me to write what they say. While dictating the sentence to write , they will make noise by twisting their tongue and say write this!!! . That used to be the challenge and I had to accept my failure. Later when I learnt through an English teacher ( Any Indian man/woman who teaches that language will get a dual citizenship in England and will become "English" teacher) about this Onomatopoeia and he has given examples like Neigh referring the sound made by Horse.I heard the noise made by a horse several time and wondered how could some one say this as "Neigh.."May be it does not have any better way of expressing in words. Today in the online world,I see people using the same tactics to express their emotions - no matter whether it really sounds the same way or not. In response to a joke told online we see "ha ha ha"- we should understan

Self Realisation...

Address by Subroto Bagchi, Chief Operating Officer, MindTree Consulting to the Class of 2006 at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore on defining success. I was the last child of a small-time government servant, in a family of five brothers. My earliest memory of my father is as that of a District Employment Officer in Koraput, Orissa. It was and remains as back of beyond as you can imagine. There was no electricity; no primary school nearby and water did not flow out of a tap. As a result, I did not go to school until the age of eight; I was home-schooled. My father used to get transferred every year. The family belongings fit into the back of a jeep – so the family moved from place to place and, without any trouble, my Mother would set up an establishment and get us going. Raised by a widow who had come as a refugee from the then East Bengal , she was a matriculate when she married my Father. My parents set the foundation of my life and the value system which makes me wh

When HE became IT and an air ticket became a freight charge

As I was thinking the events happened last week, there were couple of hard, sad days....One of my workmate passed away leaving his family, mates in despair. This sudden, unexpected loss has put me in a state of mental unrest.Adding to the loss, the reason for this loss being lack of medical facility in this tiny nation has shook my confidence. Two weeks ago it was my another workmate's spouse and this week my mate- both succumbed to lack of quality emergency medical assistance. 1. When one of my staff told me that this person has died.Shocked, I asked "where is "he "now?" .But the reply came "It is in the hospital" .No matter how dear a person is to us...he /she becomes "It" the moment something which we do not know what it is has left our physical body. 2. When my employer decided to bear the expenses of repatriation of his mortal remains,I was asked to proceed. As a practice, I approached the airline ticketing counter to know the fare and o

Theory of non-relativity

"The effort, force, energy, velocity involved in gaining certain things in the universe is not proportionate to the same involved in losing them " . Example #1: Gaining and burning Calories depends on whether you are at your dinner table or in the Gym.When you can very happily gain loads of calories with small effort on your dinner table , it is very time consuming, rigorous task to burn even one-tenth of the calories gained when you are working out in a Gym" Example #2: It takes a month of pain, pressure from boss, subordinates, paper works, sleepless nights to see a decent bank balance at the end of the month and the same balance gives back an empty smile within 10 days when all your payment bills sweep the money from the account or when you enter a shopping mall. The velocity at which the bank balance becomes empty is higher if your spouse is accompanying you to the shopping mall. If Albert Einstein is alive, he will surely agree this and propose my name for a Nobel prize

Theory of Succession !!

"With all aspects maintained constant,In an organisation, the volume of Criticism of your performance by your successor with your ex-colleagues will be directly proportionate to the volume of Criticism you did on your predecessor with your ex- colleagues who were your colleagues then" An Axiom to this theory to reduce the volume of criticism by your successor is to find your best pal to replace you!!!

Around the Arab world in 60 days!!

Tunis-Algiers-Cairo-Benghazi-Sana'a-Manama . This looks like an itinerary for some of the beautiful locations on the Arab world. But in reality, is the route by which the revolution is travelling in that region and has created speculations all around the world for which is going to be the next destination. Despite the differences created by the political borders, the emotions of the people involved in the revolution( as what it is known)/riots ( as how it is being stated by the government) has one common underlying feel- CHANGE and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH .It is a surprising fact that all these leaders against whom people are marching today were once been highly regarded by the same people and is proving " Too much of anything is good for nothing" .It is painful to see people fleeing their own land being chased and bombarded by their own government and by their own army meant to protect them. Surely this must be a nightmare for all those rulers/ heads of state occupying the
